Social Media for Service
With the historic passage of the Serve America Act, the Obama Administration’s focus on service and volunteering as a way to engage citizens and solve social problems, service organizations are at a tipping point like never before.
All of these programs will need to communicate impact and inspiration, attract new volunteers and donors, and engage their networks in participatory ways.
ServeNext, in partnership with New Organizing Institute, has recently launched Social Media for Service – an initiative designed to help national service programs meet their specific needs and improve impact through online strategy.
Social Media for Service will focus on helping programs to use social media and online strategy for:
• Storytelling to inspire and reach a wider audience
• Volunteer and corps member recruitment
• Communicating and building relationships with program alumni and constituents
• Small donor efforts
• Building a larger, more robust email list and getting those contacts more involved
If you’re interested in having us work with your organization to deliver trainings and coaching, discuss the importance of this work with your board or executive team, or just have questions, send us an email at info@servenext.org.
NextSteps Discussion Series
The historic passage of the Serve America Act, media coverage, multi-sector leadership, and rising interest from citizens has brought incredible attention to service and volunteerism.
Now there is a new challenge for the service movement: How to fully leverage the current momentum so that this explosion of interest becomes a permanent feature of American culture and politics at all levels?
At ServeNext we believe the answer is the grassroots. Bill Gates agrees, recently stating that social causes need to build broad constituencies instead of relying on a few enlightened leaders.
To create effective strategies at the grassroots level to sustain the momentum for service, ServeNext will be convening a NextSteps Discussion Series, bringing together leaders from nonprofit, business, government, faith-based, philanthropy, and technology sectors.
The details for this are still coming together. We will add them here when they are ready or you can email info@servenext.org if you would like to be involved or have questions.
